Important Information for all 6th years and their Parents/ Guardians from the Career Guidance Counsellor
All CAO candidates will have received a text/email from the CAO office requesting them to log into their CAO account to check that all the details they hold on them are correct. Each candidate must check that all their personal details (name, date of birth, address, etc.) and course choices are correct. It is also vital to check that the exam number – given to the CAO by the State Exams Commission – is correct. If the candidate has been granted an Irish/language exemption, it should be checked that this has been recorded in their CAO account.
If all the information is correct, proceed to the end of the account and click ‘confirm’. If there is an error or omission in the information contact the CAO office immediately. Each year, a few hundred candidates do not receive a college offer even though they achieved the minimum requirements and necessary points. This is because the CAO has incorrect or incomplete information about a candidate, and this was not corrected by the candidate as requested in the text/email just received. Consequently, each year some of these candidates lose their college place. If this occurs, it is deemed to be the fault of the candidate for not taking the opportunity to correct the error/omission as requested in the text/email received recently.
