Leaving Cert. Vocational Programme (LCVP)

What does it involve?

Alongside your regular Leaving Cert subjects, you take two extra link modules:
  • Preparation for the World of Work – learning about careers, how to apply for jobs, CVs, interviews, and workplace skills.
  • Enterprise Education – learning about setting up and running businesses, teamwork, problem-solving, and project work.

These modules are taught in a practical, hands-on way, often with projects, work experience, and visits to businesses or colleges.

Why choose LCVP?

  • Practical skills – you learn teamwork, research, communication, and digital skills that are useful in any career.
  • Work experience – many schools organise a placement where you try out a job area you’re interested in.
  • Extra points for college – you can gain points towards your CAO from LCVP (depending on the grade you achieve).
  • Confidence for the future – students often find it makes them better prepared for interviews, college life, or starting work.

How is it assessed?

  • Portfolio (60%) – a collection of projects, reports, and CVs you build during the course.
  • Written exam (40%) – taken in May of 6th year, before the main Leaving Cert exams.

In simple terms: LCVP is the Leaving Cert plus career and life skills. It gives you an edge for the future while still focusing on your regular subjects.
