Welcome Message!

To Our New 1st Year Students and Parents (September 2020)

You are all very welcome to Presentation Community College!

We are really looking forward to meeting you and to getting to know each and everyone of you.

The vision for our school is that we are:

“A caring, supportive school where all are valued and encouraged to learn and explore, where people feel they belong, and are challenged to perform to the best of their abilities”.

As our new first years you are starting out on a new adventure. You will have a new daily routine, new teachers and new subjects. We will be doing our very best to ensure that you settle into second level school at Presentation Community College. You had an unusual end to Primary School, but you coped well with that change and we hope that, with our help and support, you will make the transition to PCC with confidence and a positive outlook.

Day 1 for First Year students is Tuesday 1st September 2020, 9.30am – 12.30pm  – Please bring a pen and lunch/water for break-time

Day 2 for First year students is Thursday 3rd September 9.30am – 1.00pm      –      Please bring a pen and lunch/water for break-time

On day 1 students will meet the Principal, Mr Brown, the Deputy Principal, Ms Mulderrig, their Year Head and Class tutors, the Chaplain Ms. Casey and Guidance Counselor Ms. Ní Nualláin. Over the course of the two days, students will have induction sessions based on the following themes:

Student wellbeing

  • Students will be given information on how they can support their own wellbeing, particularly during the transition period to second level, and how we as a school support their wellbeing as new first year students.
  • SPHE lessons and Wellbeing lessons will address the return to school during Covid19, and students will learn about these 1st year subjects

Getting to know my new school

  • Students will be introduced to the structures and daily routine of their new school
  • A locker will be assigned to each student and they will be shown how and when to use it
  • Students will receive their new college journal
  • They will receive their time-table
  • They will be given a tour around the school
Getting to know people in my class
  • Students will be divided into their class groups and will have time with their class tutor. The class tutor is the teacher you meet every morning during the school year for 12 minutes before you go to your first lesson.
  • There will be some fun activities organised for you to get to know one another
Learning about being Prepared, Responsible and Respectful and how to keep ourselves and other safe and well during Covid 19
  • First years will learn about what is expected of them at PCC, in terms of school-work, home-work, behaviour in and outside of class.
  • Students will have targeted training on hand-hygiene, respiratory hygiene, how to look after personal belongings, how to clean surfaces etc.
  • Procedures around PE lessons will be explained. Note that students may wear their college track-suit in school on PE day.
Useful web-site  www.stepup.ie If you go to this web-site you will find lots of information about the move to secondary school.
Our advice is that you take one day at a time. Once you get here on Tuesday 1st September, you will see that PCC is a good place to be !
Booklist Queries

Booklists can be found on this page.

Queries re Business book: There are two editions of the business book. The latest was just published 2nd Edition 2020. If possible please purchase the old edition but do not worry if it’s not available.

Queries re Italian book: The Italian book is no longer in print. The Italian teacher will let students know how to access the book in September. Don’t panic!

Maths and History books will be provided by the school.

Uniform Queries

Information about purchasing school uniform can be found on this page.

There may be supply issues trying to get the full uniform before the start date so we are aware of this and understand so don’t worry too much if there is a hold-up.

Tracksuits will be worn for the full day on the days that students have PE. There will be no changing facilities unfortunately due to Covid19 restrictions.

Lunch/Water

Students need to bring a water bottle with them to school. We will have water dispensers and use of those is restricted to students who have a bottle where the top screws off before filling. No bottles may be used if filling them means the part of the top that people drink out of touches the water dispenser.

We have break in the morning for 15 minutes and lunch at 1pm. Students should bring food for a snack in the morning and lunch in the afternoon.

There is a vending machine and this will take a tap bank card/Revolut card. It is fitted with antibacterial screen for touchpad when choosing what to purchase and there is a hand sanitiser attached to it. We would advise students to use an item or tissue when pressing for selection for extra safety.
