Home / Curriculum and Assessment
Our two special classes for students with Autism have grown and developed into a vibrant and valued part of our school community. From the beginning, the classes have been built on a foundation of inclusion, understanding and care – ensuring that every student can thrive both socially and academically. This aligns with our Ethos and core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect.
Our dedicated team of teachers and special needs assistants work closely together, supporting our students and one another, creating a caring and collaborative environment. The students enrolled in the classes experience learning in a hybrid school setting, contributing to and benefitting from an inclusive school experience.
We are proud of the facilities and resources available which continue to enhance learning and wellbeing for our students. As well as well-equipped classrooms in Sonas, we have sensory rooms and a life-skills/leisure room, called Spraoi. The success and growth of the special classes in Sonas, (the name of the special class area) reflect the shared commitment of staff, students, and parents/guardians to creating an inclusive, supportive and positive school environment for all.
All students enrolled in Sonas classes are members of a mainstream tutor class and year group. This facilitates the hybrid approach to learning. They may take lessons in Sonas and/or in mainstream classes.
Sonas offers students learning opportunities for students with autism in the following areas:
