LEAVING CERT 2021 – latest information (updated March 9th 3.50pm)

Click here for the document explaining how to use the ONLINE PORTAL

The latest communication from the Department of Education on the Leaving Cert 2021 has been summarised and sent to all students’ email accounts.

Portal
  • The portal will open next week Wednesday March 10th at 12 midday and will stay open until Tuesday 16th March 6pm.
  • Only subjects you are doing in PCC will appear
  • If you are doing subjects outside of PCC you enter them in the portal
  • Choose your levels and speak to teachers if you are unsure
  • The portal will open again in late April/early May for you to change things
  • IF YOU CHOOSE NEXT WEEK ON THE PORTAL NOT TO SIT A WRITTEN EXAM IN JUNE IN A SUBJECT YOU CANNOT CHANGE THIS IN APRIL/MAY WHEN THE PORTAL OPENS AGAIN TO SAY YOU THEN WANT TO SIT THE EXAM
  • HOWEVER, IF YOU TICK THE BOX NEXT WEEK IN THE PORTAL TO SIT AN EXAM IN JUNE YOU CAN CHANGE THIS IN APRIL/MAY WHEN THE PORTAL OPENS AGAIN TO SAY YOU DON’T WANT TO SIT THE EXAM
  • You should all be ticking to receive Accredited Grades in all subjects no matter what because if you are going to sit an exam in June something could happen on the day where you are unwell and can’t sit the exam so therefore you will have the Accredited Grade to fall back on
IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO IN A CERTAIN SUBJECT:
  • Tick accredited grade
  • Tick to sit the exam in June also
  • You can then untick this when the portal opens again
Oral Examinations
To facilitate the orderly conduct of the marking, the ORAL tests must be held between 26 March and 15 April. Guidance on how the Orals will be conducted will be provided by the SEC to schools no later than 15 March.
Practical Performance Test in Music
The Practical Performance Test in Music is planned to take place in the second week of the Easter holiday. The tests will be conducted by examiners appointed by the SEC. Running the tests outside of the school term means that there will be fewer personnel and students in the school and more space will be available for ensuring physical distancing between the candidate and the examiner.

Further details on the arrangements for the tests will be provided as soon as possible, based on the public health advice.

Construction Studies
It will not be possible to proceed with the day-practical examinations in Construction Studies.
Students who sit the examinations in Construction Studies will be resulted on the written and practical coursework components with the marks for the practical skills tests reallocated to the practical coursework.
Coursework Deadlines:
There have been extension updates to the deadline for coursework. I’ve attached the list below in a table. Your teachers got this information this morning so will update you further in class when they see you again.

Performance in Class:
Regardless of whether you are sitting a written exam in a subject or not you have to do the work that the teacher is doing in class. You must try your best and work hard.
If you are doing a language but do not intend to do the written exam and therefore are not going to do the official oral exam that is your choice BUT you still have to take part in all work being done in your class in the next month before the Orals.

Below are the slides of the presentation given to students on Friday 26th May regarding the plans for LC21. We will update this as things change.
